Just a quick post to note that you can preview the new Soft Targets 7″ over on the Soft Targets myspace page. (!)

Record release show — without the records
Well tonight’s Soft Targets show at the Mutiny was supposed to be the record release show for the new 45, but we still don’t have the records. (In fact, they still haven’t been pressed! Word from the plant, simply: “Seven-inches are backed up.”) We’ll let you know more when we know more, but hopefully we’ll have the vinyl soon. In the meantime, tonight’s free show happens as planned, there just won’t be any new records to buy. (But that means you’ll have more money for those frosty mugs of beer.)
One final caveat: the real Soft Targets are playing tonight at the Mutiny, 2428 N Western Ave; strangely, Tallahassee, Florida band (myspace), strangely also called the Soft Targets, will be playing an unrelated show just across the street from the Mutiny. Don’t be fooled! It is to the Mutiny that you want to go to see the real Soft Targets from Chicago.
7″ Release Show 9/12 @ the Mutiny, Chicago
The Record Release Show for the new Soft Targets 7″ single “The Kids Want Action” b/w “Don’t Ask Why” will take place this Friday night, September 12, 9 PM at the Mutiny (myspace link).
The Mutiny is located at 2428 N Western Ave (just north of Fullerton) in Chicago (map).
The Titmice (myspace) and The Party Downers are playing, too.
This is a FREE SHOW! 21+
UPDATE (2008-09-12): This show is still happening, but as we don’t have any vinyl yet (how often have you hear that one?), it’s not so much a record release show.
Plastic Crimewave dot com
We added it to our links page when it was announced yesterday, but just wanted to help be sure the word gets out: Plastic Crimewave now has a homeplace on the Web, plasticcrimewave.com — and it’s definitely worth checking out. Blogging at the Reader, Philip Montoro observes parenthetically, “It must be very strange for him to work in a medium where he can’t draw and letter everything by hand.”
Soft Targets 8/30 @ Bottom Lounge, Chicago
The new Soft Targets seven-inch is being manufactured as we speak. “The Kids Want Action” b/w “Don’t Ask Why” is a high-powered slab of double gold and will be released as Device-004 in the Loud Devices catalog. We’ll be announcing the official release date soon.
In the meantime, Soft Targets are headlining the new Bottom Lounge this Saturday, August 30th. Titmice (myspace), Papillion (myspace), and Mr. Russia will also play. Doors at 8pm. 21+. The Bottom Lounge is located at 1375 W. Lake Street in Chicago (map).
Site news: news pages updated
We’ve just updated our web site to use Blogger to manage our news pages. This is a big improvement over what we’d been doing for the past several months, which was managing — and we use the term loosely — a single news page by simply opening it in an editor and typing in our most recent news at the top. It took us a little while to integrate with our pre-existing custom php system, but it’s been worth it. Blogger lets us easily have individual pages for individual posts, links to previous posts, and groups posts by tags (or “labels,” as they’re called in Blogger). It also makes it easy to maintain atom and rss feeds. In coming up with our Blogger html template, we found “Publishing a Blog with Blogger – Visual QuickProject Guide” to be a most excellent reference, and we borrowed liberally from the Airbag Industries styles featured at 3point7designs.com earlier this year. Finally, we’ve taken the opportunity to clear out some past-tense entries.

Plastic Crimewave in LA
Plastic Crimewave has a couple appearances of note coming up in Los Angeles this week.
Tomorrow, Wednesday, May 7, 7-8:30 PM, he will be DJ-ing on the stage inside Amoeba Records Hollywood (6400 W Sunset Blvd – map).
Then on Sunday, May 11 at 8 PM, an ensemble of Plastic Crimewave, Ariel Pink, and Jimi Hey be be doing a live score to 1928 German
expressionist thriller/proto-horror film The Man Who Laughs at the Silent Movie
Theatre (611 N Fairfax – map). Plastic Crimewave will also perform a solo score to Georges Méliès’ Trip to the Moon. (We were
lucky enough to see/hear Plastic Crimewave accompany this short in Chicago a bit over three years ago.) Co-presented by the Cinefamily and Arthur Magazine.
